INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL POLICE ORGANIZATION
Agenda:
Deliberating on the Organ Harvesting Rings Operating in the Mediterranean Region through
Criminal Route Disruption and Network Infiltration
Trafficking in Human Beings for Organ Removal (THBOR), is a severe worldwide crime in which the illegal organ trade takes advantage of weak individuals, especially migrants. Particularly along Mediterranean migration routes, victims are often lured with false promises and are compelled to sell their organs and have their organs removed.
Egypt, Libya, Turkey, Kosovo, and several other examples of North and West African nations are among the affected countries. External criminal networks have connections to the Middle East and Europe, where there is still excess demand for illegal organ transplants.
INTERPOL has taken an active approach to combating THBOR. It cooperates closely with various national health care and law enforcement agencies and has issued Red Notices, arranged cross-border investigations, and encouraged international cooperation to dismantle trafficking networks.
INTERPOL further aims to enhance the capacities of member states, improve intelligence-sharing, and contribute to the establishment of legal mechanisms to oppose THBOR. Its objective is to defend human rights and safeguard vulnerable groups by implementing global collaboration.
